Coveo was founded in 2005 in Quebec as a spin-off of Copernic's enterprise search technology, co-founded by Laurent Simoneau, Richard Tessier, and Marc Sanfaçon. It grew into a broad enterprise search and recommendations platform used inside e-commerce sites, customer-support portals, and internal knowledge bases at large companies, indexing content across CRMs, CMSs, and file stores through hundreds of pre-built connectors. Coveo completed its IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: CVO) in November 2021. The company has pushed its AI-Relevance platform toward generative answering since 2023, adding Relevance Generative Answering, which layers an LLM on top of Coveo's existing unified index to produce cited, sourced answers for commerce, customer service, and internal workplace search rather than a plain results list. Leadership changed in April 2025, when co-founder Laurent Simoneau moved from President and CTO into the CEO role, with long-time CEO Louis Têtu becoming Executive Chairman.
