Cerebras Systems is a semiconductor and AI infrastructure company based in Sunnyvale, California, founded in 2015 by Andrew Feldman, Gary Lauterbach, Michael James, Sean Lie, and Jean-Philippe Fricker, veterans of chipmaker SeaMicro. The company designs the Wafer-Scale Engine (WSE), a single chip built from an entire silicon wafer rather than being cut into individual dies, packing hundreds of thousands of AI-optimized cores to accelerate deep learning training and inference. Its current-generation CS-3 systems, powered by the WSE-3 (4 trillion transistors, 900,000 cores), are sold on-premises and offered as pay-as-you-go cloud access through Cerebras Inference, which the company markets as the fastest inference service for open-weight large language models. Cerebras completed its IPO on Nasdaq in 2026, pricing shares that valued the company in the tens of billions of dollars, with OpenAI among its financing partners and customers.
