Absci was founded in 2011 and went public on NASDAQ (ABSI) in 2021, positioning itself around a 'data-first' loop where generative AI models design antibody sequences and structures, and an integrated wet lab immediately tests and re-trains on the results rather than waiting on outside partners to validate designs. The company is headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, with an AI research group in New York and an innovation center in Zug, Switzerland, and is led by founder and CEO Sean McClain. Its scientific output includes IgDesign, a model for in-vitro-validated antibody design against known therapeutic antigens using inverse folding, and the newer Origin-1 platform, which combines an all-atom diffusion model (AbsciDiff) with a structure-conditioned sequence model (IgDesign2) and a scoring engine (AbsciBind) to design antibodies against epitopes with no prior binder information. Absci's own pipeline includes ABS-201, an AI-designed antibody for androgenetic alopecia that entered a Phase 1/2a trial, alongside partnerships such as its antibody collaboration with Twist Bioscience, making the company both a platform licensor and a clinical-stage biotech in its own right.
