New sales stop, but existing customers keep access

Google stopped selling new Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise subscriptions on October 9, 2026, while promising existing customers continued service through the end of their contractual agreements. The split leaves current subscribers with a transition period, but closes the door to organizations that have not yet bought either plan. Google’s subscription notice directs customers toward Antigravity through Gemini Enterprise for future agentic coding assistance.

The notice concerns the paid Standard and Enterprise subscriptions, not an immediate shutdown of the tools for customers who already hold them. Gemini Code Assist offers coding assistance in supported development environments, including code completion, generation and chat. Google’s documentation lists IDEs such as VS Code, JetBrains IDEs and Android Studio among the supported environments.

Renewal dates set the transition timetable

Organizations can continue adding licenses to existing subscriptions through January 31, 2027. Annual subscribers can auto-renew only through that same date; monthly subscriptions can continue renewing through December 31, 2027. After those respective deadlines, Google says customers cannot add licenses or renew the relevant subscription type.

Those dates make the change more gradual than a service shutdown, but they also give customers different planning horizons depending on how they pay. The notice says existing subscriptions remain supported until their contractual end date, so customers should check both the renewal cutoff and the specific end date in their agreement. Google asks them to plan a move to Gemini Enterprise before their final renewal or contract end.

Antigravity is Google's stated destination

Google says agentic coding assistance will be available through Antigravity, which it includes in Gemini Enterprise editions. The company’s release notes list Antigravity 2.0, Antigravity CLI and Antigravity for IDEs among Gemini Enterprise’s AI developer tools. Separately, Google’s Code Assist documentation lists Android Studio as a supported IDE for Gemini Code Assist.

The release notes say an invoiced Cloud Billing account with an active subscription is needed to enable pay-as-you-go usage above quota. They do not establish that this billing condition is required for access to the AI developer tools themselves. That makes the destination a change in subscription and administration as well as a change in product name. The sunset notice does not describe an automatic account migration or promise that every Code Assist feature will carry over unchanged.

Buyers face a product and contract decision

For teams already using Code Assist, the immediate question is when their current agreement reaches its final renewal or end date. For prospective buyers, the October 9 cutoff means they must evaluate Gemini Enterprise rather than purchase a new Standard or Enterprise Code Assist subscription. Google’s timeline preserves a runway for many current customers, but it does not extend indefinitely: new license additions stop on January 31, 2027, and monthly renewals stop on December 31, 2027.
