OpenAI's Robotics team needs a technical commodity manager to build hardware supply chain from scratch. The person sources components during R&D, qualifies vendors, turns around quotes and samples, evaluates lead times and supplier capability, and works with engineering, quality, legal and finance. Later work covers new product introduction — DFM feedback, first-article inspection, pilot builds — then production-grade suppliers and contract manufacturers. The posting wants supply chain fundamentals, comfort with ambiguity, and some hardware supply chain exposure. San Francisco, four days a week in person, up to 30% travel.
