Waymo is hiring a staff software engineer for Maneuvering Tech, in Waymo's autonomous driving software org. The role is making the car's behaviour safe, smooth and predictable to other road users — merging, negotiating narrow roads — with noisy, incomplete information. The person frames open-ended real-world problems as engineering problems, builds tools, algorithms and evaluation methods, scales them to large data pipelines and makes them run in real time on the cars.
