Waymo is hiring a staff data scientist to lead methodology and metrics for the behavior-evaluation portfolio behind its autonomous driving software. The work covers roadmaps and KPIs for evaluation quality, cost and business relevance, and deep dives into metrics, sampling and statistical inference. It asks for a quantitative degree, a PhD with five years' industry experience or seven without, applied statistics such as experiment design and causal inference, and Python, R or SQL. The metrics feed launch decisions for hundreds of software engineers.
