OpenAI's Personal AGI team, within the Model Experience group, is hiring a research engineer or scientist to shape how ChatGPT behaves — its default character, communication, and use of capabilities across contexts and languages. The work spans reinforcement learning, post-training, human data, reward models, and evaluations, with the hire owning a research agenda. Candidates need strong ML engineering, judgment about model behavior, and comfort debugging a large ML codebase. The role sits between research, product, and model design, and is based in San Francisco under a hybrid model.
