A fully funded four-year PhD studentship, expected to start January 2027, administered by the University of Cambridge and co-funded by Phaidra. The student will work on causal reinforcement learning: formalising policy learning from biased small datasets, developing algorithms that use causal structure for out-of-distribution generalisation, and benchmarking methods in simulated environments. The position asks for a strong degree in a technical field, background in reinforcement learning, machine learning, probabilistic modelling or control theory, Python and standard ML libraries, and scientific writing skills. Based primarily in Cambridge, with time at Phaidra.
