GitLab's Forward Deployed Engineering team places engineers inside strategic customer environments. This Staff role builds and improves GitLab Duo Agent Platform: designing agent workflows, context and retrieval systems, integrations, evaluation suites, and production changes across CLI, IDE, AI Gateway, and orchestration. It asks for staff-level software engineering, hands-on AI system design, debugging of model, retrieval and tool-use failures, and depth in one AI engineering area. Customer-facing work and turning customer-specific findings into reusable platform capabilities are central.
