xAI is hiring a backend engineer in London to build and run the API that serves its models to developers. The role spans the whole path for high-throughput inference: model serving, request routing, rate limiting, observability and scaling, plus SDK work, at billions of tokens a minute with low latency. The posting asks for expert Rust or C++, experience designing horizontally scalable distributed systems, and operating PostgreSQL, Clickhouse or MongoDB. Preferred: LLM serving frameworks such as vLLM or SGLang, agent orchestration, Docker and Kubernetes, and gRPC.
