OpenAI's Consumer Devices team is hiring an Android systems engineer in San Francisco to build the platform layer behind AI-native phone experiences. The work spans Android framework and system APIs, IPC, background execution, permissions, and device signals such as audio, camera, sensors and location, turning device-specific capabilities into reusable abstractions and multi-step, agentic assistant behaviour. Candidates should have shipped Android software, be proficient in Kotlin or Java, and know AOSP internals or OEM integrations. Four days a week in the office; relocation assistance available.
