Waymo's Systems Engineering team is hiring a 2027 summer intern, at Master's or PhD level, to work on conflict behavior. The intern calibrates and validates reachability and safety-margin metrics against expert human evaluations of proactive caution, analyzes large real and simulated driving logs for model accuracy and edge cases, and helps integrate safety signals into automated event triage. The posting asks for Python or C++, large-dataset analysis and statistical skills; it prefers SQL, machine learning, and experience with rare-event or imbalanced data. Pay is $70/hour (Master's) or $85/hour (PhD).
