Scott Wu co-founded Cognition and runs it as chief executive. It makes the Devin coding agent, bought Windsurf in 2025 and raised a Series E in 2026.

Scott Wu is co-founder and chief executive of Cognition, the San Francisco company behind Devin, the agent it markets as the first AI software engineer. He signs the company's own announcements, and his X profile reads "Building @cognition". He competed for the United States at the International Olympiad in Informatics three years running, taking gold in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and finishing first of 311 contestants in 2014 with a perfect score of 600. Before Cognition he co-founded the professional-networking startup Lunchclub with Vladimir Novakovski and was its chief technology officer, the title its investor Lightspeed still prints on its portfolio page. Cognition introduced Devin on 12 March 2024, reporting that it resolved 13.86 per cent of real GitHub issues on the SWE-bench benchmark against a previous best of 1.96 per cent. In July 2025 the company bought Windsurf's product, brand, intellectual property and business. On 8 September 2026 it announced a Series E of more than $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz and Accel, and said run-rate revenue had grown from $492 million at the May 2026 round to almost $900 million. He told TechCrunch in May 2026 that Cognition has "never thought about it as replacing humans", and put Devin's level at "somewhere between a junior and a mid-level engineer".
