Mustafa Suleyman: CEO of Microsoft AI, DeepMind co-founder

Mustafa Suleyman co-founded DeepMind and Inflection AI and has been CEO of Microsoft AI since 2024, leading its MAI Superintelligence Team and MAI models.

Mustafa Suleyman CBE (born August 1984 in London) studied philosophy and theology at Oxford's Mansfield College and left at 19. In 2010 he co-founded DeepMind with Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg, as its chief product officer and later head of applied AI; Google bought DeepMind in 2014; Suleyman moved to a policy role at Google in 2019 and left in early 2022. In March 2022 he co-founded Inflection AI with Reid Hoffman and built Pi. In March 2024 he joined Microsoft as executive vice president and CEO of the Microsoft AI division, reporting to Satya Nadella. He announced the MAI Superintelligence Team in November 2025; in a March 2026 reorganisation Microsoft brought the Copilot system across consumer and commercial under Jacob Andreou as executive vice president, Copilot, reporting to Satya Nadella, while Suleyman kept the AI model layer and the superintelligence work. At Build on 2 June 2026 he launched seven MAI models, writing that Microsoft AI trains its reasoning models from scratch and does not distil from other labs. In February 2026 he told the Financial Times that most white-collar computer work would be "fully automated by an AI within the next 12 to 18 months". He wrote The Coming Wave (2023) and was appointed CBE in 2019.
