Graham Neubig teaches NLP at Carnegie Mellon and is co-founder and chief scientist of OpenHands, the open-source coding-agent platform with 88,000 stars.

Graham Neubig is an Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Language Technologies Institute, where his research covers natural language processing, machine translation and large language models. Carnegie Mellon lists a BS in computer science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MS and PhD in informatics from Kyoto University. OpenHands began on 12 March 2024 as OpenDevin, an open-source answer to Cognition's Devin started by the Qwen developers Binyuan Hui and Junyang Lin. Neubig was an early contributor, and with Robert Brennan and Xingyao Wang he founded the company All Hands AI to carry the project forward; it now trades as OpenHands and he is its chief scientist. The repository showed about 88,500 stars and 11,600 forks in September 2026. In November 2025 the company raised an $18.8 million Series A led by Madrona, with Menlo Ventures, Pillar VC, Obvious Ventures, Fujitsu Ventures and Alumni Ventures taking part. He was first author of the 2017 paper describing DyNet, the dynamic neural-network toolkit, and publishes his teaching materials openly, including the code for his Neural Networks for NLP course.
