Emad Mostaque - Intelligent Internet, ex-Stability AI CEO

Emad Mostaque founded Stability AI and led it to March 2024. He now runs Intelligent Internet in London, publishing open models and the book The Last Economy.

Mohammad Emad Mostaque (born 17 April 1983) is a British-Bangladeshi businessman and former hedge fund manager. Born in Jordan to a Bengali Muslim family and taken to Dhaka a month later, he moved to the United Kingdom at seven. He studied mathematics and computer science at the University of Oxford, then ran hedge fund money and advised governments on Middle East affairs. In late 2020 he co-founded Stability AI with Cyrus Hodes. The company supplied the compute behind Stable Diffusion, the open-weight text-to-image model released on 22 August 2022. He resigned as CEO and from the board on 23 March 2024 under investor pressure over how the company was run, after a June 2023 investigation, citing more than 30 sources, had challenged his account of his degree, an AWS partnership and his part in building Stable Diffusion. He is now founder and CEO of Intelligent Internet, the trading name of L42 Ltd, registered in England and Wales, with its office in London. It publishes open agent and reasoning models - II-Agent, II-Medical, II-Search - and brought out his first book, The Last Economy, in August 2025.
