Bret Taylor — Sierra CEO and OpenAI board chair

Bret Taylor co-founded Sierra and runs it as CEO, and chairs OpenAI's board. He co-created Google Maps, was Facebook's CTO and co-CEO of Salesforce.

Bret Taylor (born 1980 in Oakland, California) is an American programmer and entrepreneur whose career runs from the consumer web through social platforms and enterprise software to agentic AI. He took BS and MS degrees in computer science at Stanford, started at Google, where he co-created Google Maps, and co-founded FriendFeed, which Facebook bought in 2009. He was Facebook's chief technology officer from 2010 to 2012. In 2012 he co-founded Quip, a collaborative productivity startup Salesforce acquired in 2016 for $750 million. He became Salesforce's chief product officer, then president and COO, then vice chair and co-CEO from November 2021 until January 2023. He joined Twitter's board in 2016 and chaired it from 2021 to October 2022, through Elon Musk's contested acquisition. He co-founded Sierra with Clay Bavor, whom he met at Google; the company launched publicly in February 2024 and sells AI agents that handle customer conversations, and he is its CEO. In May 2026 Sierra said it had raised $950 million led by Tiger Global and GV at a valuation of more than $15 billion, taking it past $1 billion in capital, with over 40% of the Fortune 50 as customers; in a year-two review published on 6 February 2026 it said it had passed $150 million in annual recurring revenue. He has chaired OpenAI's board since November 2023 and chairs both the OpenAI Foundation board and the OpenAI Group PBC board.
