Alexandr Wang: Meta Chief AI Officer, Scale founder

Alexandr Wang is Meta's first Chief AI Officer and leads Meta Superintelligence Labs. He founded Scale AI in 2016 and chairs its board.

Alexandr Wang was born in January 1997 in Los Alamos, New Mexico, to parents who worked as physicists, and left MIT in 2016 to co-found Scale AI with Lucy Guo. Scale became one of the largest suppliers of human-annotated training data, model evaluation and reinforcement learning from human feedback to AI labs and enterprises; by Meta's account it grew under him to a valuation of nearly $29 billion and "was involved in the development of most every leading model across the industry". In June 2025 Meta invested $14.3 billion for a 49% non-voting stake in Scale, Wang stepped down as Scale's chief executive and joined Meta as its first Chief AI Officer, leading Meta Superintelligence Labs. Meta's leadership page, which still carries that title, describes him as shaping the company's AI vision and driving its strategic initiatives. The lab released its first model, Muse Spark, on 8 April 2026, and Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion-parameter open-weights model under the Apache licence, on 10 August 2026. Wang is founder and chairman of Scale AI's board, a company he started as a 19-year-old MIT student. Scale was run by interim chief executive Jason Droege from June 2025 until Francis deSouza took the job on 10 August 2026.
