Surfer (Surfer SEO) was founded in 2017 in Wrocław, Poland, by Lucjan Suski, Michał Suski, Sławomir Czajkowski, Tomasz Niezgoda, and Kazimierz Pięta. It originated as an internal tool at a Polish SEO agency before launching as a standalone commercial product. The company builds a content optimization platform that analyzes top-ranking pages and uses data/NLP-driven scoring to guide on-page SEO content creation. Surfer grew without external venture funding (bootstrapped), reaching roughly $15-16 million in annual recurring revenue and about 12,000 customers worldwide by 2025. In October 2025, Surfer was acquired by Positive Group (formerly Groupe Positive), a European marketing-technology company, becoming its AI-powered search-visibility division. Surfer's co-founders and leadership team remained with the company after the acquisition.
