SeekOut was founded in 2017 in Bellevue, Washington, by Anoop Gupta and Aravind Bala, both longtime Microsoft veterans - Gupta previously led Skype and Exchange and served as a technical assistant to Bill Gates. In April 2026, Gupta stepped back from day-to-day leadership to become executive chairman, handing the CEO role to enterprise software veteran Sean Thompson, while Bala continues as co-founder and CTO. SeekOut's core product lets recruiters search across a database the company says covers more than a billion public candidate profiles, going beyond LinkedIn-style keyword search to include signals like GitHub contributions, patents, and published research - useful for sourcing technical and scientific talent that doesn't show up well in a traditional resume database. The platform has been particularly popular with technical recruiting and DEI-focused sourcing teams because of its diversity search filters and ability to find candidates from non-traditional backgrounds. The company has raised over $189 million, including a $115 million Series C, from investors such as Tiger Global and Madrona Venture Group, and has more recently pushed into agentic AI products, including an inbound-application screening tool and an integration layer that lets recruiters run SeekOut workflows from inside general AI assistants.
