PathAI
AI-powered digital pathology company whose AISight platform and PathExplore biomarker panels help pharma and labs read tissue slides faster and more consistently.

PathAI was founded in 2016 by Andy Beck, a pathologist and computer scientist, on the premise that machine learning could reduce the variability that creeps into human reads of tissue biopsies and speed up the biomarker analysis pharma companies need for oncology trials. The Boston company has raised roughly $255-355 million across rounds including a 2021 Series C co-led by D1 Capital Partners and Kaiser Permanente, with investors also including General Atlantic, Tiger Global and strategic partners Bristol-Myers Squibb, Labcorp and Merck's GHI fund. Its commercial work runs on two fronts: AISight, an image-management platform that labs and biopharma partners use to view, share and run AI algorithms against whole-slide pathology images, and PathExplore, a panel of more than 600 standardized 'human interpretable features' extracted from routine H&E slides that quantifies things like tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte density without extra staining. PathAI's algorithms have been used in partnerships with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Roche and Labcorp to support biomarker discovery and clinical trial patient selection, positioning the company as infrastructure for the pharma side of oncology drug development as much as a diagnostics vendor for hospitals.
