MarketMuse
AI content research and optimization platform that builds topic-authority briefs and content inventories for SEO teams, now part of Siteimprove.

MarketMuse was founded in Boston in 2013 by Aki Balogh and Jeff Coyle to apply natural language processing to content planning: instead of guessing which topics a page needs to rank, the software crawls the top-ranking pages for a query and builds a semantic map of the subtopics, questions, and entities those pages already cover. That analysis powers content briefs, a topic-authority scoring system, and an "Inventory" feature that audits a site's existing content against a market's full topic space. In October 2024, MarketMuse was acquired by Siteimprove, a Copenhagen-based digital experience platform, and now operates as MarketMuse by Siteimprove alongside Siteimprove's accessibility, analytics, and SEO tooling. The deal folded a decade of content-intelligence data into a larger suite rather than shutting the product down, and MarketMuse still sells as a standalone subscription. The platform is used mainly by content marketing teams, SEO agencies, and publishers who need to plan large volumes of content without manually researching every topic cluster by hand, and it remains one of the older, more established names in AI-assisted content planning, predating the current wave of GPT-based writing tools by several years.
