Lokalise was founded in 2017 by Nick Ustinov and Petr Antropov, who started it after struggling to manage translation files for their own mobile app; it grew into a dedicated localization platform for product and engineering teams shipping web, mobile, and game builds across many locales. The company operates as a fully remote, globally distributed team with roots in Riga, Latvia. Sophie Krishnan became CEO in October 2023. The platform centers on a translation-key editor with more than 60 integrations, including GitHub, Figma, Jira, and Contentful, and it introduced tiered AI translation in 2024-2025 — a Standard AI option for everyday strings and a Pro AI option that uses model routing, context awareness, and custom AI profiles for brand-sensitive copy. Lokalise is venture-backed, having raised a $50 million Series B in December 2021 led by CRV with participation from Creandum and Dawn Capital, and it competes most directly with Crowdin, Phrase, and Transifex for software localization budgets.
