Lavender was founded in 2020 by William Ballance and Will Allred, who had previously worked together on an earlier venture called Sorter before pivoting to email coaching. The company is based in New York and raised an $11M Series A in 2023 led by Norwest Venture Partners, bringing its total funding to roughly $14M. Lavender's product lives inside Gmail and Outlook as a browser extension, analyzing each email as it's written and scoring it from 0 to 100 based on factors like subject line strength, length, reading level, and personalization. The company says its own analysis of more than 230,000 sent emails shows top-scoring messages achieving meaningfully higher reply rates, and customers have included sales teams at Twilio, Brex, and Demandbase.
