InvokeAI began in 2022 as an open-source Stable Diffusion toolkit that grew into one of the most widely starred generative-image repositories on GitHub. Invoke AI, Inc. was incorporated by Kent Keirsey, with original project creator Dr. Lincoln Stein continuing as an advisor and active maintainer. The company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and builds a commercial "Invoke" studio and enterprise SaaS platform on top of the open-source engine, aimed at professional creative teams that need control over intellectual property in AI-generated imagery. In September 2023, Invoke AI raised a $3.75 million seed round led by Storm Ventures, with participation from SignalFire and Universe Software, to expand the open-source community and build out its enterprise product.
