Grammarly is an AI-powered writing assistant that checks grammar, spelling, tone, and clarity across browsers, desktop apps, and mobile devices, and has since added broader generative AI writing features. The company was founded in 2009 in Ukraine by Alex Shevchenko, Max Lytvyn, and Dmytro Lider, who had previously co-founded the plagiarism-detection company MyDropBox together. Grammarly is headquartered in San Francisco, with additional offices including Kyiv and New York. Grammarly raised a $110 million Series A in 2017, a $90 million Series B in 2019, and a Series C of over $200 million in November 2021 that valued the company at $13 billion. In December 2024 Grammarly announced the acquisition of Coda, and Coda's CEO Shishir Mehrotra became Grammarly's CEO in early 2025; in July 2025 Grammarly acquired the email client Superhuman. In October 2025, the parent company rebranded from Grammarly Inc. to Superhuman Platform Inc., a holding structure housing product brands including Grammarly, Coda, and Superhuman, with Shishir Mehrotra as CEO.
