AI content platform that researches SERPs, drafts articles, and tracks how brands are cited across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI answer engines.

Frase started in Boston in 2017, when co-founder Tomas Ratia set out to automate the SERP research phase of content writing - scraping the top-ranking pages for a keyword, extracting the headings and questions they cover, and turning that into an outline a writer could work from. The product grew from a research assistant into a fuller content workflow with an AI drafting agent, an SEO scoring system, and a WordPress-and-Docs publishing layer. Copysmith acquired Frase in October 2022 as part of a multi-brand portfolio that also picked up the AI writer Rytr, but Frase has continued to operate under its own name, roadmap, and support team rather than being merged into Copysmith's product. More recently it added Generative Engine Optimization features - a GEO Score Checker and AI Visibility Checker - that track whether a brand's content gets cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews, alongside its original SEO tooling. Frase describes itself as a remote-first company serving content marketers, agencies, and in-house SEO teams who want research, drafting, and optimization scoring in one subscription rather than stitched together from separate tools.
