Feedzai

Real-time AI risk platform that banks and payment providers use to stop fraud, account takeover and money laundering across the customer lifecycle.

Feedzai

Feedzai was founded in 2011 in Coimbra, Portugal by Nuno Sebastião, Pedro Bizarro and Paulo Marques, all with academic roots in machine learning research at the University of Coimbra. The founders set out to apply real-time machine learning to payment data at a scale banks' legacy rules engines couldn't match, scoring transactions in milliseconds rather than flagging fraud after the fact. The company grew into what it now calls a RiskOps category, consolidating fraud detection, anti-money-laundering and case management into one platform instead of the patchwork of point solutions many banks had stitched together. Feedzai says its systems process around 120 billion events and roughly $9 trillion in payments annually for banks and payment companies worldwide, and it reached unicorn status in 2021 after a Series D round, with a later raise pushing its valuation above $2 billion. The company is dual-headquartered in Coimbra and San Mateo, California, and counts European Central Bank digital euro work among its recent public partnerships, alongside a long roster of tier-one bank customers.
