Botpress was founded in 2017 by Sylvain Perron and Justin Watson as an open-source platform for building chatbots, first released on GitHub under the MIT license in January 2017. Botpress provides a visual, developer-friendly platform for building, deploying, and managing AI-powered chatbots and autonomous agents, combining large language models with tools for workflow automation, integrations, and enterprise deployment. It evolved from a pure open-source chatbot toolkit into an all-in-one cloud platform for LLM-powered agents. The company raised a $15 million Series A in 2021 led by Decibel and Inovia Capital, followed by a $25 million (roughly CAD $34 million) Series B in June 2025 led by Framework Venture Partners, with participation from Deloitte Ventures, HubSpot Ventures, and existing investors. The Series B brought total funding to about $45 million at a roughly $120 million post-money valuation.
