Apollo.io
B2B sales intelligence platform pairing a large contact database with email, call, and LinkedIn sequencing plus AI-assisted prospecting and writing.

Apollo.io started life in San Francisco in 2015 as ZenProspect, a Y Combinator company founded by Tim Zheng, Ray Li, and Roy Chung. After landing a $7 million Series A in 2018, the founders rebranded the company as Apollo, repositioning it from a contact-search tool into a full go-to-market platform covering data, sequencing, and a built-in dialer. The product combines a searchable B2B contact and company database with sequences that automate email, LinkedIn, and call outreach, all wrapped in a single interface aimed at both individual reps and RevOps teams managing territory and routing rules. Apollo has since layered generative AI on top: an AI-assisted email writer drafts and personalizes sequence copy, and an agentic assistant introduced in 2026 can execute multi-step prospecting workflows, such as building a segment and drafting a sequence, from a single natural-language prompt. Apollo has raised over $250 million across several rounds, including a $100 million Series D in 2023, and reports well over 500,000 companies using some tier of the product. Tim Zheng remains CEO; Ray Li continues as CTO, while co-founder Roy Chung transitioned to a strategic advisor role in 2022.
