Adobe is an American public software company known for Creative Cloud, Photoshop, and Firefly generative AI tools.

Adobe was founded in December 1982 in California by John Warnock and Charles Geschke, former Xerox PARC researchers, and is headquartered in San Jose. The company built its business around the PostScript printing language, the PDF format, and creative software including Photoshop and Illustrator. Adobe's flagship offering is Creative Cloud, a subscription suite for creative professionals, complemented by the Document Cloud and Experience Cloud business lines; in generative AI it has developed the Firefly family of image, video and design models, integrated across its creative applications. Longtime CEO Shantanu Narayen, who led Adobe for eighteen years, announced in March 2026 that he intends to transition out of the CEO role once a successor is named, remaining as board chair in the interim; as of mid-2026 no permanent successor had been announced, and CFO Dan Durn also departed in June 2026, with Steve Day serving as interim CFO. A publicly traded company (NASDAQ: ADBE) with tens of thousands of employees worldwide, Adobe continues to face pressure to demonstrate clear AI monetization as it competes with new generative AI tools from OpenAI, Google and various startups in the creative software space.
