Dozens of custom apps built during early access show the range Runway is targeting with App Studio: tools for film localization, game-character consistency, architectural previews and even soundtrack libraries. Announced October 26, the no-code builder lets users describe a creative tool in plain language, then generates an app that can run on Runway’s image, video and audio models.

The pitch is not just faster media generation. Runway wants creative teams to package prompts, model choices, references and production steps into interfaces colleagues can use without mastering the underlying workflow. Apps can draw on a company’s Brand Kits, Workflows, Assets and References, while users can share them with teammates or publish a link for other people with Runway accounts.

From specialist prompts to team tools

Runway says App Studio can turn an existing Agent session or Workflow into an app in one click, preserving its prompt, model chain and settings while presenting teammates with only the inputs they need. Users can also start from a plain-language description, such as a tool that turns campaign briefs into mood boards. The builder writes, tests and deploys the app; creators can refine it in natural language, preview changes, restore earlier versions and inspect the code.

The launch includes built-in apps that users can use or remix. Character Swap places a person or character into video; AutoComp replaces a product in existing footage while retaining labels and packaging; Product Portfolio makes product visuals from an image; and Precise Edit changes a selected area of an image. A 3D Camera Control app sets camera position and movement in three-dimensional space.

KPF’s design renderings become directed video

Global architecture firm KPF used the product during early access to make an app for animating design renderings. Designers identify what should move in a still image, draw a camera path and receive directed video of the design.

“Runway’s App Studio lets us build our own AI tools around the way our teams work, so every designer in the studio can use them, not just a few specialists, all within our own environment.”

Andy Christoforou, associate principal, KPF

Other early-access examples include an app that creates a continuous fly-through from a location photo and drawn camera path, and one that translates trailer end titles while preserving their fonts, effects and layout. A game studio built a tool to generate consistent character shots from reference images and regenerate them together when a design changes. Runway says its design partners built dozens of custom apps during the early-access period.

Access comes with credit and account limits

App Studio is available now on every paid Runway plan without an added purchase. Building, running and hosting apps use the customer’s existing credit balance, and each app displays its usage. A person using a publicly shared app pays for their own generations; creators pay for building, their own runs and hosting.

Apps are private to their creator unless shared. Team and Enterprise customers can share them with selected teammates, a project or the whole workspace; paid-plan users can publish public links. Free users can run built-in apps and those shared with them, but need a paid plan to build their own.

Enterprise administrators can disable App Studio for a workspace, decide whether public links are allowed and view usage across its apps. Existing model restrictions carry over: if an administrator disables a model, users cannot access it through an app. Public visitors must sign in with a Runway account, keeping the builder’s reach tied to Runway’s own platform and credit system.
