Persona puts case-review agents into identity operations

Persona announced its Persona AI suite on October 29, bringing AI agents and assistant tools to identity verification and compliance work. The products include Case Review Agents for investigating identity cases, Policy Agents for turning requirements into workflows, and Persona Assistant for questions and tasks inside the platform. Persona says the suite was tested with more than 30 early-access customers, including Zillow and Etsy, and is already powering hundreds of thousands of identity decisions.

The launch groups several capabilities under one product umbrella, with Persona positioning its own platform data, policies and permissions as the agents’ operating context. The company says Case Review Agents can gather evidence, compare it with a customer’s rules and recommend an approval, decline or escalation, showing reviewers the reasoning behind the recommendation. Businesses can also configure automatic handling for cases that meet their criteria, while routing exceptions to human reviewers.

Parafin reports faster KYC reviews

Persona pointed to Parafin, a provider of embedded financing, as an example of the agents in use. The company says the system took over routine reviews against Parafin’s own approval criteria, helping reduce median KYC review time for capital products by about 95%—from roughly 18 hours to less than one hour. Persona also says the agents’ decisions matched human reviewers’ judgment 99% of the time and automatically approved all cases Parafin deemed eligible, sending exceptions to its review team.

Those results come from Persona’s launch announcement, not an independently described evaluation. Parafin’s head of operations, Aimal Mehrabi, said the combined identity-verification and case-review setup helped the company demonstrate data controls to bank partners. “By using Persona for both identity verification and case review, we didn’t have to worry about data leaving the walled garden that is Persona,” Mehrabi said.

Agents work from case records and company rules

Persona’s documentation says Case Review Agents can analyze verification results, watchlist and adverse-media reports, behavioral signals, earlier case history and information supplied through integrations. They produce a structured recommendation and document the signals and conclusions used. Depending on the customer’s configuration, the case can be resolved automatically or sent to a human reviewer.

Persona says teams set the agents’ risk thresholds and decide which cases can be resolved without human review. Its help documentation describes a setup process that starts with a company’s standard operating procedures, then backtests the agent against historical case data before live decisions begin. The company also says actions are logged and that its agents follow the data-access and masking controls configured for human staff.

Assistant and connectors extend the suite

Persona Assistant lets teams ask questions about identity data in plain language and complete dashboard tasks, with approvals at designated steps. Policy Agents convert compliance and risk requirements into workflows and flag conflicts with existing rules for review. Persona Extend connects outside AI tools to Persona through its Model Context Protocol server and command-line interface, with permissions and records of actions, according to the company.

Persona says the Assistant, Agents and Extend are available now, though its announcement directs interested organizations to request a demo rather than listing public pricing. The product targets routine identity work—such as KYC and KYB reviews—where automation can move cases faster but decisions can affect access to financial services or online accounts. Its operating model leaves businesses to decide which outcomes agents may execute and which still require a person’s approval.

Human oversight remains a customer setting

The distinction matters because a recommended decision and an automated final decision carry different risks. Persona’s materials describe both modes: agents can surface evidence for review, or automatically resolve specified case types when a customer has enabled that setting. The product’s audit records and backtesting offer controls around those decisions, but they do not establish how well the system performs across customers or use cases beyond the figures Persona disclosed for Parafin.

Persona CEO and co-founder Rick Song said the company intends to give agents a larger operational role while keeping people responsible for consequential calls. “The strongest defense pairs AI with the judgment of identity experts, working inside the systems where their data, policies and case history already live,” Song said. That approach places the final automation boundary with each customer, whose rules determine when an agent can approve a case and when it must hand the decision to a reviewer.
