Payhawk announced on September 15, 2026 that it is shipping agentic Playbooks designed to run recurring finance jobs inside Claude, ChatGPT and the company’s own platform.

The release forms part of Payhawk’s Fall ’26 Edition, called “Prompt your finance.” It extends the company’s AI Office of the CFO from individual task-focused agents to ready-made procedures that can carry a finance process from start to finish.

Payhawk says Playbooks operate on live company data through the Payhawk Model Context Protocol, or MCP. The connection applies each user’s existing permissions, while proposed changes are previewed before they run.

Payhawk’s announcement positions the product as a move beyond AI systems that only retrieve information or generate reports.

From prompts to complete finance jobs

Each Playbook is built around one finance job for one role. The procedure determines what to check, what to ignore and what constitutes a satisfactory result, according to the company.

The initial library covers month-end close, receipt chasing, budget control, cash calculations across entities, supplier-data clean-up, audit preparation and supplier-renewal preparation. Payhawk says customers can also create their own Playbooks.

Examples on the company’s Fall ’26 product page include a month-end close process that identifies uncoded expenses, missing receipts and pending approvals, then contacts the relevant employees and prepares a close summary after confirmation.

That design gives the software a defined operating boundary. A general chatbot can answer a question about spending; a Playbook is intended to inspect the underlying records, identify unfinished work and move the process forward within the user’s authority.

Payhawk’s bet on action rather than reporting

Hristo Borisov, Payhawk’s co-founder and CEO, said the company had heard from hundreds of CFOs who wanted more than another reporting layer.

“Speaking to hundreds of CFOs this year, I realised that while enterprise software companies are racing to deliver MCP integrations focused on reading and reporting data, they are missing the real opportunity: building AI that acts, not just reads. Finance teams need more than a new reporting layer. They expect AI to do real work for them by running end to end processes.”

The MCP connection is the foundation for that approach. Payhawk says customers can interact with their Payhawk data from Claude or ChatGPT while retaining the permissions attached to their Payhawk account. The company’s separate product page also lists Codex as a supported AI environment.

Payhawk says the MCP can be used to answer questions and then take action, including coding, approval, receipt follow-up and closing work. The announcement does not provide independent customer performance data for the Playbooks themselves.

An Implementation Agent joins the product suite

The same release introduces an Implementation Agent intended to shorten the setup process for new Payhawk customers. The agent connects accounting and human-resources systems, imports data, and configures workflows, policies and processes based on the customer’s requirements.

Payhawk says the agent supports integrations including Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, Xero, DATEV and QuickBooks. The company also lists newer connections with SAP, Pennylane, Rillet, Campfire and DualEntry.

Martin Reindl, Payhawk’s general manager and senior vice president of customer success, said early customers had gone live in under an hour. The company describes that figure as an early-customer result, not as a general implementation guarantee.

The Fall ’26 product page describes the wider implementation target as getting customers live in under five days. It says the agent can use existing policy documents, approval matrices and charts of accounts rather than requiring teams to enter the same information again.

Controls stay with the finance team

Payhawk’s announcement stresses that Playbooks act through the customer’s existing permissions. That matters because the jobs being automated involve approvals, supplier records, budgets and close activities rather than isolated document generation.

The company says every action through its MCP connection is limited by the user’s authority. Its product page also says changes are previewed before execution, giving users an opportunity to confirm actions that affect the underlying finance system.

Payhawk’s Fall ’26 Edition is available to customers on September 15. The company plans to demonstrate the release in a live webinar scheduled for September 29.
