OpenAI and ServiceNow announced an expanded partnership on October 28, 2026, centered on bringing ServiceNow workflows into ChatGPT and placing more OpenAI models and agents inside ServiceNow products. The announced integration is designed to let employees investigate issues and take approved actions in the same ChatGPT conversation, while ServiceNow retains control over the rules and permissions governing those actions.
ChatGPT can reach ServiceNow records
The ServiceNow integration lets customers connect ChatGPT to their own ServiceNow instance and choose which capabilities to make available. An IT worker could search for similar incidents, assess the risk of a proposed change and update a ServiceNow record without switching applications. ServiceNow’s Action Fabric applies the customer’s existing business rules and permissions.
ServiceNow also described a planned interactive experience for on-call engineers: review monitoring alerts, recent changes and affected services, then assign a team and work toward a fix within ChatGPT. The companies say the ServiceNow platform remains the place where actions are executed and governed. That distinction matters for organizations that want a conversational interface without handing a general-purpose assistant authority outside their established access controls.
“AI becomes more useful when people can put it to work in the systems their businesses depend on. By bringing our models together with ServiceNow’s workflows and business context, we’re helping teams build software, address security risks and put AI to work across their organizations.”
Greg Brockman, president and co-founder of OpenAI
Security, application development and voice are still ahead
The companies also outlined three areas of product work. A planned Codex integration in ServiceNow’s AI Workflow Factory would let developers build applications with ServiceNow business context; OpenAI models are also expected to power the platform’s Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer. A joint security offering is intended to combine OpenAI’s cybersecurity capabilities with ServiceNow asset, identity and business context to help teams investigate vulnerabilities, rank risks and coordinate remediation.
A separate voice experience for ServiceNow’s Super Intelligence Control Tower would let users describe an AI use case aloud. The system is planned to fill in assessment fields and ask follow-up questions when details are missing. These are announced plans rather than generally available features: OpenAI says voice capabilities are expected in the first quarter of 2027, security features in early access in January 2027 and general availability in the second quarter, while Codex in AI Workflow Factory is expected in 2027.
The first release is available; broader rollout is pending
The ServiceNow MCP plugin was available in OpenAI’s marketplace on the announcement date, with enhanced capabilities expected by the end of 2026. The expansion also runs in both directions inside the companies: ServiceNow plans to give all its employees access to ChatGPT Work and Codex, while OpenAI says it is using ServiceNow workflows in its own operations. ServiceNow plans to use OpenAI capabilities in internal security work as well.
The agreement builds on a multi-year collaboration announced on January 20, 2026, when the companies said OpenAI models would be a preferred intelligence capability offered to ServiceNow enterprise customers. The October expansion moves beyond model access toward connections between assistants and operational systems—but its broadest security, voice and development features are still on the companies’ delivery schedule, not in customers’ hands.
