OpenAI Begins Rolling Out Real-Time ChatGPT Slides Editing

ChatGPT Slides is rolling out to eligible accounts, adding real-time co-editing to the team workspace called Space. The feature is available on ChatGPT Pro, Business and Enterprise plans with Space access, but OpenAI says it may not yet be available to every account on those plans.

One deck, several editors

People with edit access can change the same presentation at the same time. Teams can use shared comments and @mentions to discuss changes, and mention ChatGPT or a “dot” to ask an agent to make edits. Comment-only access is not available at launch, so users who want to leave comments without editing do not have that permission option. The guidance does not say that view-only access is unavailable.

Teams can start with a blank slide or template in Space, or ask ChatGPT in Work to create an editable presentation from a conversation or attached source files. Users can edit text, images, shapes, tables and charts directly. To request a change to one element, they can select it and describe the edit; they can also use the prompt bar to revise the deck. OpenAI advises reviewing the text, figures and layout before sharing or presenting.

Access depends on plan and device

The Help Center lists ChatGPT Pro, Business and Enterprise plans with Space access. Its current guidance describes Slides as rolling out to eligible accounts, without giving a schedule for when additional accounts will receive access. OpenAI’s Space feature page also describes creating slides from a conversation or template and editing them with teammates in the same deck.

There is a separate constraint for some Windows desktop users. On devices without the required MXC component, local AI slide creation and editing in the desktop app use PowerPoint files instead of collaborative Slides. Windows 10 does not support the component, while Windows 11 users may need an update or their organization to enable it. OpenAI recommends cloud mode or ChatGPT on the web for creating and editing collaborative Slides.

Present or export a deck

Users can present directly from ChatGPT. On the web, presentations can be exported to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides. PowerPoint and Google Slides exports can be opened for continued editing; PDF is described as a copy for viewing. OpenAI recommends opening an exported presentation and checking its content and formatting before using it. Users can also open a presentation in PowerPoint or Keynote if the app is installed on their computer.

The Space feature page describes slides as part of a shared workspace where teams can work with ChatGPT and their own templates. The Help Center says people who cannot see Slides may not yet have access, and directs Windows users without the required component toward cloud mode or the web for collaborative decks. Neither guidance page sets out a timetable for completing the account rollout.

Review before sharing

The feature brings presentation creation, teammate edits and AI revisions into one ChatGPT workflow. The Help Center’s instructions still leave review of the text, figures and layout to users before they share or present a deck. That check also applies to exported files: OpenAI says to open them and verify their content and formatting before use.

For teams, the practical first step is to check whether Slides appears in a Space account on a listed plan. If it does, teammates with edit access can work on the deck at the same time, add shared comments and ask ChatGPT or a dot to make changes. If a Windows desktop setup does not support the collaborative version, OpenAI points users to cloud mode or ChatGPT on the web.
