Boomi says its acquisition of Elementary Data, announced October 19, will bring Elementary’s data-monitoring and governance tools into Boomi’s commercial platform. Elementary’s founders say the open-source project and standalone service will continue. The deal adds observability, quality, governance and discovery capabilities to Boomi’s enterprise offering, according to the company.

The companies also publish different adoption counts. Boomi’s announcement says Elementary is used by more than 1,500 data teams; the founders’ announcement says more than 2,000. Both state that the project receives over 1.1 million downloads a month and has a community of about 4,000 people. The announcements do not explain the difference between the team counts.

Elementary’s tools move into Boomi’s platform

Boomi says Elementary adds agent-driven monitoring of data pipelines and context, column-level lineage, a shared catalog and health scores. Its MCP server exposes data context and health to AI tools and agents, while Elementary’s AI agents can automate test creation, incident triage, governance and performance optimization. The capabilities are intended to help teams catch data problems before they reach dashboards, models or systems that act on the data.

“AI is only as trustworthy as the data behind it,”

Steve Lucas, chairman and CEO of Boomi, said that in describing the acquisition as adding an observability, quality and governance layer to the data supporting customers’ AI systems. Boomi presents Elementary as a complement to its Active Data Foundation, which the company says moves and governs data across applications, devices and agents.

The open-source project under a commercial owner

Elementary began as an open-source project in 2022 and launched its cloud product in 2024, according to Boomi. In its announcement, Elementary’s founders say the open-source project will continue, and the company’s FAQ says its open-source projects remain available and will continue to be maintained. The founders also say the cloud service will continue without interruption and that customers do not need to migrate to Boomi.

Maayan Salom, CEO and co-founder of Elementary, said the acquisition would give the team a larger platform for its work. “When agents act on your data at machine speed, trust in that data stops being a nice-to-have and becomes the foundation the whole enterprise stands on,” she said. Elementary’s announcement says the company will remain available as a standalone offering for now, with no migrations planned.

Price and integration details remain undisclosed

Boomi did not disclose financial terms. Its announcement also does not give a schedule for integrating Elementary’s capabilities into the Boomi Enterprise Platform; it describes features customers will gain but does not set out a rollout timetable. In its FAQ, Elementary says its focus remains on building its data reliability platform and investing in capabilities customers rely on.

For existing users, Elementary’s founders say the open-source project will continue and the service will remain available as a standalone product for now. The founders say they will communicate well in advance if future changes are introduced.
