Apple is opening Siri AI app integrations to any developer through a new Developer Preview tied to the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas. The preview uses App Intents to bring app content and actions into Siri AI, including custom actions such as checking a delivery, booking a reservation or placing an order. Apple says people can request actions in their own words, using Siri AI’s personal context understanding, onscreen awareness and natural-language capabilities.

App Intents bring custom actions into Siri AI

Apple describes the release as an early Developer Preview that lets an app work directly with Siri AI before the capabilities first ship to customers in a few months. App Store submissions are set to open in the spring, giving developers time to explore, build and shape their experiences before launch. Apple says it will provide more details later about the terms and usage policies for experiences enabled through Siri AI.

The preview builds on integrations already made by thousands of developers. Apple says those integrations let people use Siri to ask for directions, manage a to-do list, send a message or catch up on an audiobook. The new preview extends app access to Siri AI, rather than limiting the announcement to Apple’s own apps.

Skills let Siri AI combine app actions

For complex requests, developers can use skills to teach Siri AI to combine several actions into a single experience. Apple also says Siri AI can surface any entity in the Spotlight semantic index, including entities that do not fit an existing schema. Together, those capabilities let apps expose both actions and content through the preview.

Apple apps demonstrate the expanded actions

Apple says it has started rolling out the new capabilities across Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather. Examples include asking Siri AI to find a coffee shop visited last week or to archive files that have not been opened in more than a year. Apple says more actions are available as examples, and users can ask Siri AI what each app can do.

Siri AI currently supports English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple says it plans to add Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese. Its announcement says some features may not be available in every region or language.

The preview has availability and usage limits

Siri AI is also available in beta in watchOS 27.3, and requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device set to a supported language. Apple says Siri AI is currently unavailable in the European Union in iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, and that it is working with the EU to find a path forward. The service is not available to users under 13.

Apple says certain Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side models, including Siri AI, have daily usage limits. Those limits may vary with the feature, request complexity, system demand and other factors. Apple says expanded access to these features will be available for a fee in the future.

Apple offers developers early guidance

Apple’s announcement directs developers to new documentation covering the APIs, how to use them and how to evaluate an app’s experience with Siri AI. Developers can also connect with Apple engineers in Apple Intelligence Group Labs on November 4–5 to ask questions and get advice. The preview gives developers an early period to build and shape integrations before customer availability and App Store submissions.
