Anthropic folds Claude Cowork into chat and adds Docs, Slides

Five slides and a written report can now come from the same Claude conversation. Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork and Claude’s standard chat into one product, then adding document and presentation tools that carry the same context, files, connectors, and skills from the conversation that created them.
The changes were announced September 16, 2026, in Anthropic’s product announcement. The unified experience is rolling out first to Pro and Max subscribers in the Claude apps for web, desktop, and mobile. Anthropic says the rollout will take place over the coming weeks, with Team and Free plans to follow.
One conversation replaces the Cowork handoff
Cowork originally gave Claude a separate space for larger assignments. Users had to decide whether a task belonged in ordinary chat, Cowork, or Claude Design, and work started in one area did not always carry into another. Anthropic now says Claude can determine what a request requires without making users choose the destination first.
A short question can stay a chat exchange, while a larger assignment can continue as an ongoing task. Anthropic says Claude can keep working after a user closes a laptop, and users can check progress from a phone. Existing Cowork work is supposed to carry over, including chats, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills.

The new arrangement also preserves user approval controls. Claude asks before taking an action by default, although users can allow it to continue working and request confirmation only when a closer review is needed.
Claude Docs and Slides share the same source material
Claude Docs and Claude Slides launch alongside the merger. Both are in beta on paid plans, and Enterprise administrators decide when to enable them for their organizations.
Docs lets users write and edit a document with Claude inside the conversation. Slides produces a presentation from the same working context. Users can edit the results directly, present from Claude, or download presentations as PowerPoint or PDF files.
Anthropic’s example starts with a weekly pipeline report. A user asks Claude to review what changed, flag delays, write the report in the team’s usual style, and put the main points into five slides for a leadership meeting. Because the document and presentation come from one conversation, the company says the slides already match the report. Users can then revise a line, comment on a slide, share the work, or schedule the task to repeat every Monday.
Design moves into the conversation
Claude Design, Anthropic’s visual creation tool, now works inside ordinary Claude conversations as well. Anthropic says Design continues to operate as a standalone product, but its capabilities are available wherever a user starts a task.
Work produced with Claude Design, Claude Slides, or Claude Docs lives behind one shareable link that can be opened on a phone. Users can select an element to move it or describe the change they want Claude to make. The arrangement puts written documents, presentations, and visual outputs in the same editing flow rather than treating them as separate destinations.
Pro and Max users get the first rollout
Anthropic says there is nothing for Pro and Max users to activate. The combined experience is arriving for existing and new subscribers across the web, desktop, and mobile apps during the rollout period.
Enterprise customers will receive at least 30 days’ notice before any change affects their organizations. Team and Free users are scheduled to receive access later, but Anthropic has not provided a specific date for those plans.
The immediate question is less whether Claude can produce another document or slide deck than how much work users will allow it to continue without supervision. Anthropic’s release puts those permissions, the shared context, and the final edit in the same place; the first rollout will show whether users prefer that single workflow to choosing among separate tools.
