Accenture and Google promise a path beyond federal AI pilots

Accenture Federal Services and Google Public Sector say new Gemini launchpads will help federal agencies move from experimenting with AI agents to using them in government operations. The companies announced the capability on October 19, 2026, describing a model built around embedded engineers, agency data and centrally managed deployments. But the first steps they detail are still preparatory: Accenture is training an initial cohort of engineers, and agencies can attend workshops to identify possible projects.

The launchpads are meant to provide agencies with a hub for building and managing agents based on Google’s Gemini. The companies say agencies can connect Gemini to mission datasets, prioritize use cases, deploy agents and train employees through the program. Leadership would also get a single view to track agent performance and measure mission impact, according to the announcement.

Engineers will work alongside agency teams

Accenture Federal Services says its Forward Deployed Engineers will work directly with agency teams and the company’s own subject-matter experts. Their role is to build agents that connect to government systems of record and carry out complex workflows. The arrangement pairs Google Cloud technical skills with Accenture Federal Services’ knowledge of government operations, the companies said.

“The real opportunity to scale value for our clients is deploying these purpose-built agents to transform work at the heart of government operations,” said Ron Ash, CEO of Accenture Federal Services. He said the engineers would work alongside agency teams to define and address their challenges.

Accenture Federal Services is training an initial group of Google Cloud-skilled engineers for the effort. The company says that training forms part of a previously announced commitment to build a 1,000-person Forward Deployed Engineer workforce within its Gemini Enterprise Business Group. The announcement does not specify how many engineers are in the initial cohort or when they will begin work at agencies.

HR, finance and supply chain are first targets

The companies are developing pre-built agents for human resources, finance and supply chain functions. They say the agents will operate within Gemini and handle data gathering and complex workflows, leaving employees to focus on decisions and mission work. The announcement does not name a participating agency or identify a specific agent already in operational use.

That leaves a gap between the stated goal of mission execution at scale and the current offer: a developing set of agents, engineers still in training and a workshop-based route for agencies to select use cases. Accenture and Google say agencies can try the approach through hands-on agent-building workshops at The Forge in Washington, D.C. A recently opened Prototyping Lab there will demonstrate agent experiences across business and mission functions.

The Forge is the next step for agencies

During the workshops, the companies say they will help agency leaders identify agents suited to specific outcomes and outline a practical roadmap. The release does not give a timetable for broader deployment or specify which government systems the first agents will connect to. For now, the concrete entry point is a session at The Forge, where agencies can explore potential applications with Accenture and Google Public Sector.
