10x Genomics is handing an AI agent the work of planning and running single-cell analyses, while leaving researchers to review the plan and inspect the code behind its results. The company announced the commercial launch of Sentira Single Cell on November 2, a cloud application for asking scientific questions about Chromium data in natural language.

Researchers review the plan before the agent runs it

Sentira accepts a question or hypothesis from a researcher, or can be asked to propose a hypothesis based on the data. The agent then develops an analysis plan for the researcher to review and refine before it executes the work and returns results. 10x says users can continue the exchange by asking follow-up questions or requesting changes.

The workflow also produces an editable, reproducible notebook that records the methods and code used to reach each result. That record is central to the product’s stated design: the agent performs the analysis, but the scientist can inspect and revise the plan and continue exploring the data.

“What stands out to me is how easily Sentira Single Cell lets us ask questions of our data directly and get answers quickly. The questions themselves aren't new, but being able to ask them in natural language changes how fast we can get answers and move toward insights that matter for patients,”

Claude models power the Chromium analysis workflow

Sentira Single Cell runs on 10x Cloud and is powered by Anthropic’s Claude models. 10x says the service can run multiple analyses in parallel without requiring users to configure or manage their own computing infrastructure, and describes its computing capacity as suitable for Chromium data of any scale.

Jonah Cool, Anthropic’s Head of Partnerships & Beneficial Deployments, Science, pointed to the gap between collecting high-dimensional data and making sense of it. “Great leaps have been made when it comes to generating high-dimensional data. But analyzing and interpreting that data, and generating hypotheses off the back of it, has remained a bottleneck,” he said. Cool called Sentira an example of how AI could help scientists understand data and develop ideas.

10x puts the service on sale with usage-based pricing

Sentira Single Cell is available today, with promotional credits available for users to get started and consumption-based pricing that scales with analysis needs. The announcement does not give a price or specify how many credits particular analyses use.

Sentira Single Cell extends a platform 10x introduced at the end of September. The company says Sentira Spatial Analysis is in Early Access; the November 2 launch announcement does not give a commercial release date for that product.

The promise—and the check—sits in the notebook

Michael Schnall-Levin, 10x Genomics’ Chief Technology Officer, Chief Strategy Officer and Founding Scientist, described the challenge as the “last mile” between generating data and answering a researcher’s specific question. He said the product combines agentic AI with the company’s expertise in single-cell biology, Chromium data and analysis workflows.

For users, the announced distinction is between getting an answer and being able to examine how the analysis produced it. Sentira’s agent plans and executes the workflow; the researcher’s stated role includes reviewing the plan, refining it and working from an editable notebook containing the methods and code.
