OpenAI's Training Runtime group is hiring a hands-on technical lead manager for its Data Movement area, which builds the distributed systems that feed the company's largest training runs. The role starts as primary technical owner for dataset reads: designing dataset APIs, storage and versioning contracts, benchmarks, debugging tools, caching and restart reliability, plus visualizers for inspecting text, multimodal and reinforcement learning data. Candidates should have built data loading, storage or distributed training infrastructure at scale, work comfortably across Python and lower-level code, and lead through code before managing engineers. Later scope covers checkpoint and snapshot transfers.
