Waymo's Onboard Software Performance team keeps software on its autonomous vehicles within strict latency and compute budgets. This tech lead manager role combines hands-on work with management: improving modular architecture, cutting CPU/GPU/TPU and RAM use on the car and in cloud simulation, co-designing with hardware teams, and building performance evaluation processes. It asks for six years of large-scale software engineering, two years of management, four years as a technical lead, and four years of C++. Robotics and SIMD/CUDA experience are preferred.
