Waymo seeks a Staff Technical Lead Manager for its Driver Understanding and Evaluation team, focused on simulation and machine learning. The role leads an applied ML team building deep learning and generative AI models, including LLM/VLM systems, to analyze autonomous vehicle behavior and detect anomalies. The team builds what it calls Waymo's reward function, combining human judgments with ML for training and evaluation data. It requires a B.S. or equivalent, 5+ years leading engineering teams of 5–15, 7+ years in ML and production deployment, and C++ and/or Python.
