Waymo is hiring a staff software engineer to lead a small team in its Field Response Team, which detects, mitigates and prevents real-world autonomous driving problems. The role builds detection systems and fleet-monitoring tools for Tokyo and Waymo's other international markets, and works with data science, onboard software and mapping teams on diagnostic signals. The posting asks for a BS or MS, five to seven years of software development, one to two years managing engineers, C++, Python and SQL, plus fluent Japanese and English. Tokyo road familiarity is preferred.
