Scale AI's Applied Intelligence Systems group is hiring a staff-level machine learning research engineer to work across its agentic AI stack, moving between training and fine-tuning, inference, memory and retrieval, evaluation and observability, and agent architecture as needed. The role involves prototyping methods such as continuous learning loops and online or offline RL, building internal tooling, and setting ML technical direction across teams. Requirements include five or more years as an ML engineer or scientist, a PhD, and hands-on production model training experience. The posting stresses breadth over a fixed workstream.
