Modal is hiring PhD research interns for its research team, onsite in New York or San Francisco. Interns work on large-scale model training, optimization and inference, extending models to long-context and long-horizon tasks, and improving inference-time efficiency, reliability and robustness in real deployments. The posting asks for a current PhD, a research record in reinforcement learning, machine learning or foundation models, experience with distributed training or multi-GPU work, and publications at leading venues.
