Modal is hiring a research scientist for post-training on its research team, working alongside its systems and product groups. The person will improve and develop methods for large-scale model training, optimization and inference, extend models to long-context and long-horizon tasks, and work on inference-time efficiency, reliability and robustness for real-world deployments. The posting prefers a PhD in computer science, machine learning or a related field, or a master's with substantial research or industry experience, plus first-author publications at venues such as NeurIPS, ICML or ICLR, and work with distributed multi-node GPU clusters.
