Waymo's Data Science team hires PhD interns for summer 2027 to evaluate the Waymo Driver. Interns join one of five subteams — world model evaluation, safety evaluation, driving quality, simulation, or data science safety — analyzing large-scale on-road and simulation data to build metrics, statistical models and predictive features. Work includes statistical and ML methodology for estimation, uncertainty quantification, sampling and extrapolation with foundation models, plus pipelines that make analyses repeatable. Candidates must be pursuing a PhD in a quantitative field and be proficient in Python or R.
